Please turn off the TV and read something
Every morning while we're having our breakfast, the lovely and talented wife (LTW) likes to watch ABC Mega-Morning Show. A bastion of hard-hitting journalism it is not (though the anchors would occasionally like you to think so). It's not terrible and keeps me from having to think too much before I've had my morning coffee. So this morning, the intrepid reporter-on-the-street did a typical fluff piece that shows just how f'd up this country is. The premise is this: Go out on to the streets over NYC with pictures of Presidential hopefuls and Amer1can PItful(dol) contestants and who people knew. You can see where this is heading already, can't you? That's right, people (not a dig here, but especially women) knew most of the TV contestants and very few knew the name of even one Presidential candidate. Not one. One girl even referred to Mitt Romney as Bill the software tycoon. I'm sure that Mitt would love to have Bill's money, but they hardly look alike. And last time I checked, Bill hasn't declared his candidacy. It is a sad commentary on our society when people are more interested a TV show with a contestant whose name sounds an awful lot like vagina than who will be the next leader of the free world. Wake up people. Please, for the love of God, get off your ass, turn off the TV and read a newspaper. Otherwise you have no f'ing right to complain about the war, the economy or who is in the White House for the next four years.

Hear! Hear! I couldn't even hope to identify any of the TV show contestants... my TV viewing is restricted by not having a TV, but we do watch series when they come out on DVD!

Although it definitely says something about our country... and how we got ourselves to be ranked the third to last (of 27) in a world-wide pole for country popularity (BBC article). b

In all honesty, I couldn't tell you what Mitt Romney looks like, either. It's a willful ignorance. I prefer to get to know the faces of republican candidates only after they have been forced upon me by increased popularity.
